Laguna de los Tres + Cerro Madsen
Part One: From El Chaltén to Laguna de los Tres:
Immerse yourself in one of the most emblematic routes that El Chaltén has to offer, one that will take you to the base of the imposing Cerro Fitz Roy and give you an experience that encompasses a variety of landscapes, from lush forests to majestic mountains.
We will start the day with a morning transfer from your hotel to the starting point: the Río Eléctrico bridge, located about 16 kilometres from town. From this point, we start our hike, entering a beautiful lenga forest that acts as a shelter from the winds of the Ice Field (Hielos Continentales).
We start a gentle ascent until we reach the Piedras Blancas Glacier viewpoint, continuing on to the Poincenot camp, from where some granite spires unfold before us, climbed by the most daring climbers, such as Saint Exupéry, Poincenot, Fitz Roy, Mermoz and Guillaumet, among others.
After passing the camp and crossing a beautiful bridge over the Rio Blanco, we face the most demanding kilometre, characterised by a slope of 400 metres. Throughout this stretch, we climb steadily, depending on the time of year we may have ice or snow on the path, the reward is the panoramic views that accompany us along the way, after crossing the glacier morena***, our eyes will be enchanted by the scenery.
Part Two: Ascent of Cerro Madsen and an Unforgettable Descent
We will continue ascending towards Cerro Madsen, which rises to our right. As we traverse different terrain, from rocks to snow, we will use crampons, helmets and harnesses to secure you.
The last stretch involves a low-difficulty climb, in which the guide may secure us with a rope if he deems it necessary. We will ascend to the summit, which rewards us with panoramic views of many surrounding valleys, the mountain range and in front of us the majestic Cerro Chaltén, also known as Fitz Roy.
The afternoon will find us descending again towards El Chaltén, passing the iconic Laguna Capri and later the viewpoint of the Río de las Vueltas, before finally arriving in town.
Optional: If you prefer, you can extend this adventure to two days and one night, camping at Camp Poincenot. A choice that adds even more depth to this wilderness experience.
