EXPLORING VARIOUS FOREST AND MOUNTAIN SCENERIES...
ON THE WAY TO THE MOJÓN ROJO.
Day 1: Towards "The Cave"
Distance: 10 Km
Duration: 5/6 hs
Difference in altitude: 800 mts
Prior to the stipulated day of departure, a meeting will be held with the guide to verify all the appropriate technical equipment and to finalize the details of the excursion.
We leave in the morning by shuttle to the starting point of the trail at the bridge of the Río Eléctrico, located 16 kilometers from the village.
Once there, we start our hike through a beautiful lenga forest that provides shelter from the winds coming from the Ice Field (Continental Ice).
During the walk, we will be able to contemplate different glaciers such as the Marconi, the Eléctrico, the Cagliero and, in the distance, the Vespignani. We start a gentle ascent until we reach the Piedras Blancas Glacier Viewpoint, continuing then towards the Poincenot camp, from where some granite peaks, climbed by the most daring climbers such as Saint Exupéry, Poincenot, Fitz Roy, Mermoz and Guillaumet, among others, unfold before us.
After passing the camp and crossing a beautiful bridge over the Rio Blanco we go up to its source: Laguna Sucia, an incredibly blue water mirror.
From the lagoon we go up one of the streams that descend from the Sucio Glacier until we reach the famous "cave", where we will spend the night in a bivouac, that is to say, without a tent.
DAY 2: The Top
Distance: 11 km
Duration: 8/10 hs
Difference in altitude: 900 mts
We get up before sunrise, and after a good breakfast, we set off on our adventure: we walk along a small section of loose rock until we reach the foot of the glacier where we rope up to walk through its crevasses and put on our crampons.
Gaining altitude we quickly find ourselves in the feeding area of the glacier. With luck, the sunrise and its reddish colors over the mountains will dazzle us completely.
The last stretch we will have to climb on rock, in a place with a low technical difficulty, where we will use our hands to ascend, and our guide will secure us with a rope.
When we reach the summit, imposing views await us, we will be able to observe how the needles that we saw in the distance rise one by one, and that now seem to be within our reach.
The sensations are indescribable!
After reaching the long-awaited summit, we make our descent. We pass our bivouac in the cave and continue towards El Chaltén. Passing by Laguna Capri, and then the viewpoint of the Río de las Vueltas, we arrive in the town.
